New Year’s Resolutions Are Bullshit
New Year’s resolutions are bullshit.
Two weeks after new years, and most people have given up their goals and resigned to try again next year. That’s OK. You don’t need to change your life in conjunction with the Earth’s orbit. Big life changes are hard and rarely do they happen all at once. Is it possible to get healthier, make more money, and have better sex by deciding on the first of the year?
I sure hope it is, people have life-changing years, but for the vast majority of people, it is not their new year’s resolutions that change their life. It is little wins across years of our lives that lead to lasting changes in your body, wealth, and life.
Now don’t think for a minute that it stops me from making my own New Year’s resolutions, or using the opportunity to sell my wonderful services, however, my new year’s resolutions are all incredibly easy to accomplish and are never too late to start. All it takes is some reframing of old goals and realistic expectations.
Instead Of:
Lose twenty pounds by July
Try:
Eat vegetables every day
Instead Of:
Go to the gym daily
Try:
Raise your heart rate daily
Instead Of:
Make more money
Try:
(Something actionable to your field)
Instead Of:
Find the love of my life
Try:
Go on twenty dates
The goals in italics are either hard or vague, while the goals in bold are easy and actionable. Also, you can’t fail at the goals in bold, sure you can sleep all day and not eat any vegetables, but tomorrow you could still eat veggies and raise your heart rate. It isn’t important to be perfect, it is important to be consistent. Consistently try to improve and over time you will. Give up on impossible goals after two weeks and you won’t.
