You Can't Buy Health
You can’t trade money for health. In every niche of the healthcare industry, you are being told the same lie. Gyms, trainers, therapists, and some doctors want you to believe that if you give them money, you will become healthier. The reason that lie is perpetuated in everything from supplements to meditation apps is that we (the consumer) want it to be true. Trading money for health is a great deal! What good are your dollars if you don’t have your health?
As someone who has worked in the health and wellness space for over a decade, I can tell you that some of the health-related services work wonders for people. Individuals get addicted to cycling, Crossfit, or goat yoga, and that is awesome, even if the membership is $200 a month.
However, what no one tells you is that all the most impactful things you can do for your health are completely free.
What is the best way to slim down for bathing suit season?
Diet, eat vegetables, and maintain a calorie deficit.
How can you regulate your metabolism?
Sleep 7-8 hours every night, no exceptions.
What is the best way to prevent injury?
Regular low impact exercise (i.e., walking, swimming, easy calisthenics).
You don’t need an expensive gym membership, a nutritionist, and a chiropractor to keep you healthy and pain-free. You only need the motivation to get better and a few healthy habits. Money indeed makes everything easier. If I could afford it, I’d meet with a personal trainer three days a week, a masseuse twice a week, and do cryotherapy daily. In addition to having a personal chef cook my meals adhering with my doctor and nutritionist’s recommendations.
Yet, I am just an average American far from the 1% and will have to make do with merely a gym membership and good information. If you need good information, try The Desk Job Survival Guide, you still can’t trade your dollars for health, but I’ve got to make a living somehow.
